At AWEC 2019 for the first time, EnerKíte has shown the stable control of a kite rotating at long tethers for launch and landing. It is a significant milestone and proof of our unique approach and design choices. We have accomplished more than a thousand launches and landings in 500 hours of testing in the field. As a result, we have received tremendous feedback from our industry partners, academia, and even from competitors.

The Airborne Wind Energy Conference or simply AWEC is the leading event for the emerging wind energy sector, bringing together top industry players, leading start-ups, engaged academia, early-stage investors, and other stakeholders. AWEC presents progress in the field of renewables, and the companies discuss all aspects of this innovation on its way to market. This year participants from more than 20 countries attended AWEC, and the number of attendees has grown significantly as the wind energy industry attracts more attention, support, and investment from the global community.

Enerkite has significantly contributed to each single AWEC since 2009. For instance, in 2013, the EnerKíte EK30 secured the electricity supply at the entire outdoor event on the Tempelhof airfield, right in the heart of Berlin. By then, the kites were started and landed manually. A significant investment of time and money, including recent grants from the European Commission and the Federal Government, has enabled these successful developments towards the proof of our ambitious concept.

At the AWEC, we highlighted that our choices are driven by the commitment to deliver an up-scalable, dependable, and clean source of electricity which works almost everywhere in the world. Consequently, our wings are very robust but ultra-light and must be launched and landed and controlled solely from the actuators and generators from the ground.

AWEC has become a crucial platform for the business and academia to share the latest innovations and discoveries in the renewable wind energy field. Furthermore, AWEC is laying the ground for continuing the dialogue and efforts to improve the industry contributing to the carbon-free and green planet.
